Undergraduate Program for Road and Bridge (Bilingual)

Ⅰ. General Description

The main goal of this program is to prepare students to meet the demands of the 21st century economy, to be familiar with standards and practices of international construction projects, to master fundamental theories and specialized skills of roads, and bridges and river-crossing engineering, and to be bilingual, compound and advanced technical talents who are qualified for planning, design, construction, management, and consultation positions in the fields of road engineering, bridge engineering and tunnel engineering.

Ⅱ. Objectives

Students will be trained to acquire basic abilities of planning, design, research, and construction in the field of roads, and bridges and river-crossing engineering.

To be specific, graduates are expected:

1)        To keep track of latest advances, tendencies and potential applications of science and technology.

2)        To grasp basic principles of engineering planning, structural analysis and design, engineering material application, engineering measure and survey, engineering test and inspection and construction organization and management.

3)        To acquire basic skills of engineering drawing, computer application, test instrument operation, data querying and information collection.

4)        To be able to design, survey, test, manage and research in the field of roads, and bridges and river-crossing engineering.

5)        To be familiar with one foreign language and be able to read technical materials and communicate with foreign languages.

6)        To develop sufficient capacity for self-teaching, analysis and innovation.

7)        To be familiar with relevant international construction standards and knowledge.

 

Ⅲ. Basic Requirements

With this program, students will be made bilingual, compound and advanced technical talents in the fields of international construction project management, contract management, engineering design, construction, consultation and supervision, and will be qualified for positions in research institutes, universities, and enterprises.

Core CoursesEngineering Mechanics, Structural Analysis, Engineering Geology, Highway Geotechnical Engineering, Materials in Roadway Construction, Structure Design, Hydraulics and Hydrology, and Surveying, Pavement Engineering, Foundation Engineering, Bridge Engineering, Tunnel Engineering, etc.

Feature CoursesManagement Practice for Foreign Fund Financed Road Project, Introduction to International Design Codes, Contract Management in Civil Engineering (FIDIC), Business and Technical Writing for Civil Engineering, International Engineering Project Case Study, etc.

Ⅵ. Graduation Requirements

Graduation requires completion of all contents’ study as laid down by the program, getting a minimum of 179.5 credits and producing an up-to-standard graduation thesis or an acceptable equivalent design.
