Ⅰ. General Description
Transportation Engineering is a traditional preponderant discipline in Chang’an University. With the development of technologies in transportation project construction in China and abroad, there is an urgent need for bilingual (Chinese-English) talents to work on planning, design, construction, and technical consulting of transportation projects. These talents are expected to know construction management of design codes of international transportation projects, understand transportation planning and decision science, and have strong transportation and civil engineering background. This program is designed to train such professional talents.
Ⅱ. Objectives
The main goal of this program is to train students in professional skills in planning, design, and management in transportation infrastructure system.
To be specific, graduates are expected to:
1) lay a solid foundation in natural science; to know the status, trends, and potential applications of modern science and technology; to be able to conduct literature review by using various methods.
2) be familiar with basic theories of transportation engineering, urban transportation planning, transportation infrastructure design, traffic operation and control, airport engineering, and urban rail transit engineering, and construction management in China and abroad.
3) acquire basic skills for traffic analysis and decision-making, project planning and research, engineering investigation, structural analysis and design, experiment and inspection.
4) obtain preliminary skills in analysis, innovation, and research.
5) be able to work with at least one foreign language.
6) know international design codes and construction regulations in transportation engineering.
Ⅲ. Basic Requirements
After the completion of this program, students should be able to work in transportation planning and management, construction management of international funded project, international project contracting management, traffic design, traffic operation and control, roadway geometric design, and project consulting & supervision in research institutes, colleges and universities, consulting companies, and governments.

Ⅵ. Graduation Requirements
Graduation requires completion of all contents’ study as laid down by the program, getting a minimum of 179.5 credits and producing an up-to-standard graduation thesis or an acceptable equivalent design.
